Something is howling out there on the road, and it isn’t the wind. Halloween has arrived in Roadside, and it brought pumpkins, bats, a brand-new companion and one very stylish outfit. Grab a flashlight and let’s take a look.

Halloween Event

Until November 9 (00:00 UTC) the road gets spooky. Glowing pumpkins and candles line the roads, the Office Tower and the Lairs, and they even sneak onto the Companions screen and the Signal Rocket launch. You’ll also notice bats flying across your screen: in the menu, on the road, in Tower and Lair fights, even while the game loads.

New Companion: Saw

Saw... The Marauders burned his house down just for fun, and now it’s his turn to have fun!

Saw is the first companion of a new rarity: Unique. He has no stats of his own. Instead, you link one of your other companions to him with the new Companion Link: Saw gets the same share of your Hero’s stats as that companion, plus the bonuses from his own levels. You can change the link at any time for free.

In battle, Saw goes full maniac: he swings his chainsaw at everyone within reach, leaves them bleeding, and every cut only makes him feel better. Honestly, we’re not sure who should be more scared, the zombies or the rest of your party.

How do you get him?

While the event is on, every Signal Rocket you launch has a chance to bring Saw. He’s guaranteed after a set number of launches. Keep an eye on the guarantee counter on the Signal Rockets screen: it shows how many launches are left.

Every companion you find counts toward that guarantee, whether you pay with Rockets, Greens or an ad.

Your progress toward the guarantee never burns out. If the event ends before Saw shows up, the count carries over to the next time he’s on the road. Once he shows up, by luck or by the guarantee, the count starts over.

Extra copies of Saw go into his upgrades, just like with any other companion. Once you have enough copies to take him to the max level, he stops dropping.

Only launches made in the updated game count, so update before you fire your rockets.

The Clown

There’s also an exclusive Halloween skin up for grabs: the Clown, a Legendary full outfit. How to get it is a secret, but here’s a hint: he “hated bats and pumpkins all his life”.

Combat

Area attacks now also hit Fatty enemies and Obstacles in range. This covers grenades, blasts, the Firefighter’s death explosion, frozen enemies shattering and damage over time spreading to nearby enemies.

Your Hero and companions now walk around objects left on the road after events, like a burning car, instead of running straight through them, both on the road and in fights.

Companions’ spent bullet casings now clink when they hit the ground.

Tech Support

Another batch of bugs has been caught in a jar fixed.

• The menu no longer gets stuck if you start a Travel just as a chapter run is starting.
• The “Twack!” text on special hits no longer shows backwards when the hit goes to the left.
